MINUTES OF RICH1 HPD COLUMN MEETING
Monday 23rd October
Present Dave Clark, Richard Plackett, Trevor Savidge, Gabriel Vidal & Dave Websdale.
U channels
- 2 U channels have been cut to length and holes for the end rungs have been made. A column will be made with them to test bearings and extraction mechanism.
- Production U channels to begin at AC precision after PRR in late November 06
Anodization
- Prototype Mechanics and all rungs have been sent today for anodising at Morden Platers.
Cooling plates
- Copper plates not cut yet as workshop time rearranged to avoid idle C+C machine. They will be cut at the Department workshop before the ramp down for upgrade on 1st Dec 06
- Honeycomb drawings complete, will order today, 3 weeks delivery time + 1 contingency.
- It's noted that CERN use a vacuum not an oven to make the plates, this means there is something of a learning curve for the IC workshop to produce the prototypes. We have decided that no prototype plates will be done at IC. The production of the cooling plates will be carried out by Genova technicians at CERN.
Extraction Mechanism
- Rods will be mounted directly into frame without a holding device. This will be achieved by tapping a hole into the aluminium frame and screwing the rods in.
Patch panel
- Plastic with glue sealing bulkheads
- Will make a prototype one to test cabling scheme
Cooling Manifold
- Design underway, 3D model proving very useful to understanding integration of systems.
- A plywood "magnetic shield door" will be done to help people visualize space available (or not available) for patch panels, connectors and manifold.
