MINUTES OF RICH1 HPD COLUMN MEETING
Monday 20th November
Present Bill Cameron, Dave Clark, Richard Plackett, Gabriel Vidal & Dave Websdale.
meeting kept short to avoid major design changes during necessary absence of TS
Columns
- Drawings of U channels at AC precision.
- We will need more U channel material to make all the columns as some was used to make extraction mechanism test rig; we also want to make extra up and down type U channels in case we have to redesign layout of the HPD plane later.
- We intend to produce enough U channels to make 8 up and 8 down, giving us the capacity to have up to 9 of each column.
- It has been decided that there will be more down type columns than up type, 8 vs 6, 4 and 3 in each column with two spares, one of each.
- Rungs - we need 26 rungs to be additional machined. 9 full rungs need a slot for the temp monitoring cable, 9 half rungs with a slot for the TM cable and 8 half rungs (of the other handedness) for the bottom of the columns where the space is tight at the voltage end. DC will make one of each of the slotted rungs for the prototypes in CERN
- End pieces - DC to make 2 prototype 'C type' end pieces that allow an easier cable routing and that can be tested at CERN next week. We will keep the rods in the centre of the columns until they have checked against the cables.
- alternative HV power cable routing presented, still a question of getting the cables to the patch panels. RP will continue to work on this.
Cooling
- Possible delay in the delivery of the honeycomb means we think construction should begin in Jan 07 to avoid Genova technicians going to CERN and not having materials.
Patch Panels
- RP to provide rough idea to DC for early prototype data side patch panel to allow test mounting at CERN next week.
- There is a possible problem with the position of the 37 pin Sub D for TM as the proposed ribbon cable is inflexible in the plane of the column.
- RP has begun ordering parts for final patch panels.
